Meet the Artist
Nick van Eijk aka Vizualsbynick, why do you make art?
For me doing photography once was a way to escape a life that I no longer wanted. A way to move away from the 9-5 lifestyle and uninspiring work tasks day in and day out. Photography for me was a way to give my life new fulfillment and to once more get excited about exploring the world. I’m a creator, always have been, and always will be. I used to create experiences, but now I create images that everyone can experience in their own way. Photography is not only a way of living but also a way of being for me.
How did you find out about NFT & what made you decide to deal with it and create NFTs yourself?
I think I read about NFT’s for the first time back in 2020 and I made my first attempt at doing NFT’s in 2021. I figured out how to set up a crypto wallet, created an account on Rarible, and thought I was set to go. But then I was faced with the immense gas prices to mint an NFT. It would often be around a hundred dollars and that was just too much for me. I quickly gave up on it…
Fast forward to mid-2022 and I noticed an uptake in NFT-related messages on Instagram and once again my curiosity took over. I decided to contact someone I knew on Instagram and who was very invested in doing NFT’s and ask how and where to start. This was @BenjaminHarley and he really helped me on my way with the information I needed but just didn’t have at that time. I checked if I still had access to my crypto wallet, created a Twitter account, and minted my first NFT’s on OpenSea.
The reason for wanting to start doing NFT’s was very simple. I love creating, but I also need to be able to live. There’s no shame in saying that and I think for most people it’s a way of living, earning money, and finding purpose in life. It’s no different for me. Like all artists, I put a lot of effort and time into creating my photography and I believe that if it provides the right experience there should also be a monetary reward for it.
What personal info do you want the audiences to know about you?
I have always been a very open book on social media. On IG I would post daily updates about my life, but ever since my son was born, I have dialed back a bit on that. My son is my life and I share it with my girlfriend. There’s nothing more on this planet that I love more than them. Creating the best life possible for them is my number one priority. At the moment of writing this, I’m 35 years old, I live in Amsterdam, and I’m an absolute sci-fi and fantasy geek. Best show ever, The Expanse. Best book ever, Dune.
Also, I can be super organized and at the same time annoyingly chaotic. If you want to know anything else, just shoot me a message.
Vizualsbynick, where can we find you?
