„I tell emotional stories using conceptual self-portraits and the raw poetry of nature.“
Meet the Artist
Maria Fynsk Norup, why do you make art?
Making art is an expression of my soul, and a necessary outlet for the dreams, thoughts and emotions. If I couldn’t use a camera, I would draw, write, sculpt or something else entirely. Time disappears when I’m in creative flow.
How did you find out about NFT & what made you decide to deal with it and create NFTs yourself?
In December 2021 I won a competition through British Journal of Photography and Art3.io, where the winning works were exhibited digitally and the plan was to mint them as NFTs. At that point I had only a very vague idea about what NFTs was, so decided to dive headlong into Twitter to find out what it was all about. My curiosity and nerdy side was piqued and I quickly fell in love with the amazing art community I discovered here.
What personal info do you want the audiences to know about you?
I currently live on the coast of a small rural island in the southern Denmark with my husband, two teenage daughters and 3 cats. We left the capital of Copenhagen in 2015 to escape the stress of the city, and to - literally - be able to touch grass every day. I’m an extroverted introvert, so the peace and quiet of this place is vital for me to create and be happy.
I love reading, preferably magical realism or fantasy/sci-fi. For a cosy day on the couch everything from Studio Ghibli makes me happy (well, except Grave of the fireflies for obvious reasons).
I have been selling my physical artwork myself for the last 5 years, and am currently working towards getting gallery representation in Denmark and internationally. I find that there is a quickly growing interest from the traditional art world towards the world of NFTs, and it is incredibly exciting to stand with a foot in both worlds.
I am extremely grateful this year to have had my art exhibited around the world, to have been accepted as a SuperRare artist, and to shortly have my art included in an exhibition at Art Basel with The Royal House of Medici. All because I decided to go immerse myself in the world of NFTs 11 months ago.
