„I create pressed flower art to explore the effects of pressure on our “selves” and on our environment.“
Meet the Artist
Dodsicle, why do you make art?
My art gives me a voice and allows me to express myself in a way that is close to my soul.
I am a creative and intuitive person, but in my daily life and in my work as a university lecturer I have to be analytical and organised. Therefore, I have always created art and made music. For me this was a way of staying sane and feeling complete. I need to be creative, because I have so many thoughts and feelings inside me, that need a way out.
I started making pressed flower art after a long period of stress, and the whole process of picking flowers, pressing them, waiting, and finally creating the pieces, felt like I was piecing my “self” back together. Pressure is an obvious theme that comes back in my pressed flower art: pressure on the self, and on our environment.
How did you find out about NFT & what made you decide to deal with it and create NFTs yourself?
I found out about NFTs mid 2021 when I started looking into digital art, because I wanted to create a pixel art cover for my PhD thesis. I was immediately drawn to NFTs because of the new possibilities. I love new things, experimenting and pioneering. I also really love connecting with other artists all over the world. After a while I realised that NFTs could be a way for me to finally get my art seen.
I started making pixel art first, which I then sold in my Delft Blue collections. In the summer of 2022, when the bear market hit, I decided to take a break and develop my digital skills further. This is also when I started gathering and pressing the flowers for my digital pressed flower collages.
